Govern better, Spend Smarter.

The City of Moscow is due to write our next official strategic plan that will map out the next 10 years. As Mayor I will remain focused on governing better and spending smarter in order to build a Moscow we can be proud of - whether that is investing in fields with lights for the next generation of Moscow’s athletes or eliminating burdens to growth. After doing much research, including 348 pages of the current budget, and talking to many Moscow citizens I will be mainly focused on retooling the budget to make sense for our City, affordable housing, attracting businesses, and investing in infrastructure.

  • Better Budget

The budget needs clearer thinking, more insight, and better solutions to understand where our money is being spent and why. Nor more rubber stamping. I have reviewed it in detail and the budget is not healthy. Let’s get more out of our tax dollars.

  • Affordable Housing

Housing is not more one room apartments, but homes for families to grow and properties to invest in. Investors, real estate agents, and builders all agree that something needs to change. Let’s work together with the private sector to build homes for all families.

  • Jobs, jobs, jobs

From the UI, NSA, LCSC, and WSU to remote workers and SAHM, there is all the talent we need right here - but we have few places to employee them. We need businesses to start, to grow, and to move to Moscow. Let’s remove obstacles of commercial growth in our city.

  • Emergency Medical Services

Our EMS needs upgrading, support, and our help. With a booming population and more children in our neighborhoods, we need to provide top tier services in cases of emergencies. Lives are on the line. Let’s invest in our EMS for aging and new populations.

From Alex -

The city is as big as it has ever been and shows no sign of slowing. City Hall cannot stand on the notion that growth can be managed as it has always been. The current demographics indicate that young families with significant numbers of young children hope to and do call Moscow home. While the US population ages 15 to 64 grew 3% in the decade of 2014 to 2024, this same demographic in the state of Idaho grew 22%. We must acknowledge that growth of this magnitude will be demanding in desirable locales like Moscow. Housing, business, and city infrastructure must be intertwined like a lattice to create a city within which families can flourish. City Hall has resisted creating this essential lattice. As mayor, I will liaise with stakeholders (official, businesses, and citizens) to guide City Hall in the path of fostering meaningful and beneficial growth to meet the demand.
